Apple Pay Update

Apple Pay

In response to a small number of inquiries from our members regarding Apple Pay, we want you to know that we hear you, we understand your concerns and we want to help explain why Apple Pay is not yet supported at Unitus.

First and foremost, we carefully assess which projects have the largest overall member impact and prioritize our efforts according to this guiding principle.

Over the last year, our internal and external teams have devoted a large amount of their efforts to EMV (chip card) adoption, a global standard and largescale project that will help to increase member security now and into the future (click here to learn how). We began deploying chip cards in September, a process that will conclude early fall 2017.

At the same time, our teams worked to implement Instant Issue, a popular service that allows members in need of a new card to get one from their branch the same day. Since its launch in October 2015, we have already issued over 10,000 new cards through this service. In addition, Visa Checkout, a digital payment service for online shopping launched to provide members with a viable alternative to Pay Pal.

Looking ahead, our top priority in card enhancements today is working with Visa USA to roll out a payment platform for our cards which will support Apple Pay in addition to Samsung Pay, Android Pay and various other tokenized payment technologies. These new payment technologies are slated for release in 2017 and will come with enhanced security, convenience, and customizability to serve our members’ needs.

Again, we thank you for your continued patience and look forward to enabling many tokenized payment solutions (including Apple Pay) for our members in 2017.
